East Sutherland runners dominate Evanton meet

A large group of young runners from East Sutherland Athletics Club travelled to Evanton on Saturday for round four of the North Cross Country League and totally dominated proceedings with an outstanding display of distance running.

There are eight age group categories for juniors and by the end of the day East Sutherland AC had won six of the team titles, with Inverness Harriers taking the other two.

The Under 11 boys’ team got things off to a brilliant start by placing four runners in the first five. Eoghann Gollan won the race by some distance and with Adam Allan (3rd), Taran Squire (4th) and Shane Turney (5th) the team gold went to ESAC by a huge margin.

In the equivalent girls’ race, Catriona Scott ran well to hold on to 12th place.

In her first season in the North League, Constance Nankivell showed tremendous strength and determination to win the Under 13 girls’ race.

Helen Gordon ran superbly to take 3rd place and great support from Rosie Nankivell (8th) and Natasha Bryan (9th) resulted in another team gold.

The Under 13 boys’ team also took gold with excellent performances from Angus Mohun (2nd),Fraser Roach (3rd), Ruaridh Oliver-Jones (5th) and Keir Beaton (6th). Duncan Macleod (19th) and Keiran Barnsby (21st) completed the scoring for ESAC.

Hanna Cleghorn (5th) led the Under 15 girls’ team to victory with fine support from Catriona Gordon (6th), Eilidh MacRae (7th), Rebekah Bryan (9th), Sarah MacDonald (14th) and Aspen Priddy (19th).

The Under 15 boys’ also had four runners in the top ten with Alasdair Coupar (2nd) producing his best performance of the season, followed by Liam Barnsby (4th), Ross Gollan (6th) and Lewis Holmes (8th).

In a top quality race for Under 17 men, Finlay Murray produced another strong display to claim fifth place.

In the equivalent race for ladies, Marion Gordon (6th) and Nikki MacDonald (7th) ran well to claim the final team gold of the day.
