Defender Mark Nicolson says Brora Rangers will be aiming to win the Highland League Cup tomorrow and use it as a springboard to regain their league title next season.

The Cattachs are set to face Buckie Thistle in the final of the Highland League Cup at Station Park in Nairn on Saturday in their last chance to win silverware this season.

Brora Rangers suffered a disappointing campaign in the Highland League as they are destined to finish fourth in the campaign and are currently 12 points behind leaders Fraserburgh with one match in the league remaining.

Nicolson says going into tomorrow’s final will be a bitter-sweet moment for Brora considering they failed to defend their league title.

But they are determined to lift the trophy at full time and use it as a confidence booster going into the new campaign next season.

“Going into the final for me personally, it will be bitter-sweet just because of how we have been in the league this season.

“It has been disappointing due to the squad that we have, I feel like we have underachieved.

“We all know we have, as we have discussed it between ourselves in depth.

“We know we have not performed the way that we should have.

“But most of the boys will be here next season and we will have the strongest squad in the league.

“But we need to rectify what has gone wrong this season.

“We will get the heads down and work even harder to get back to the way we were a couple of years ago.”

Nicolson has signed a new contract which will keep him at Dudgeon Park until at least the end of next season.

The 33-year-old arrived at Dudgeon Park from League Two outfit Elgin City in 2017 where he has achieved league and cup success with the club.

Nicolson says he knows he is coming towards the end of his football career and wants to repay the faith shown by the club to keep him on for at least another 12 months.

“During my time at Brora, I have missed one and a half seasons, but other than that it has been a great five years.

“But I feel I have some unfinished business to try and get another title under the belt before it is time up for me.

“I know myself it could be my last season, or one of my last seasons.

“So it is important for me that I get another league title win.

“To get a new contract from the club is a great confidence booster and I will get my head down and work hard next season.

“I want to repay their faith with some good performances and bring some silverware back to Brora.”

Brora were thrashed 5–0 by Buckie in the Highland League last month, but Nicolson is confident they have what it takes to beat them tomorrow.

“It will soften the blow of how we have done this season if we can win the cup final and give the fans something to cheer about.”
