Bora Rangers' on-loan goalkeeper Lenny Wilson is urging the Cattachs to set aside league disappointments and refocus on finding form for the Highland League Cup final.

The Sutherland side has seen its title challenge disintegrate since Christmas after suffering defeats to all three of the leading challengers above them.

Wednesday night’s disappointing 2-0 beating by leaders Fraserburgh confirmed what already looked inevitable, leaving Brora with just one remaining crack at silverware this season.

Wilson, who joined on a temporary deal from League One Peterhead after injury to Joe Malin, is determined to do all he can to make his remaining weeks at the club memorable.

The 25-year-old, who started out with Arbroath before spells in US soccer with Hartwick Hawks, Michigan Bucks, Flint City and Red Storm, said: “We’ve still got a lot to play for.

“We’ve got league games against Brechin and Rothes up next and then we have the cup final against Buckie Thistle on April 9 to look forward to.

“It is about all of us getting together now. Only we can change it. It starts on Saturday and it will be another tough test at Brechin, before Rothes in midweek.

“The games are coming thick and fast but, as a player who has just lost a game, that’s what you want.

“The next two games are against good sides and it is really important we find form.

“After the defeat at Buckie, we already realised, realistically, the league was out of reach, but we wanted to do our best to keep the heat on the teams above

“We need to get ourselves back in the groove essentially – it would be easy to feel sorry for ourselves, but there’s no point.

“There are areas at both ends of the pitch where we can improve and once we get that right I think we’re as good a team as any team in the Highland League.

“The cup final will be massive and, hopefully, we’ll be ready for it.”

Wilson describes his experiences of late as a “whirlwind”, having recovered from a severe facial injury sustained in training with the Blue Toon in January, before taking a ridiculous red card in the 5-0 defeat to Buckie Thistle just over a week ago.

Buckie’s Kevin Fraser had grappled with the goalkeeper before Wilson tripped him, a bookable offence at best. The subsequent red card was rescinded on appeal, but a second red for protesting was upheld.

Wilson said: “Look, humans make mistakes and that’s what happened with the referee. It is good justice was done in the end.

“It was frustrating to then miss the game the following Saturday, but the boys coped fine without me.

“I’m just grateful to be here at Brora – it’s a great club and it is huge for me to get minutes and get ready for next season. If I can help in any way possible, that’s doubly good.

“It has been a great
experience so far and we still have the chance of silverware.”
