Dornoch Cricket Club played at The Meadows for the first time in 18 years.

It was the first time that the club have played a game since 2005.

It was appropriate that this fixture coincided with the opening Ashes test of the summer as the last time a bat was wielded in the Sutherland stronghold was in 2005 when the previous DCC last took the field.

Captain Matt Millward led out a team of varied experience at The Meadows against a development XI from Nairn who have forged good relationships with the club as some of the Dornoch players have been playing for them across the season.

Nairn went to bat first and sent an imposing total of 207 from 30 overs.

Dan Wolton and Stewart Hayward retiring on 45 and 50 not out respectively.

Dornoch attempted to chase down the total with Cameron Hook raced to 23 before being caught off the bowling of Dan Whitehorne and Phil Scott also added 10 runs.

Chris Schleter and skipper Millward came together for an aggressive, attacking partnership.

Schleter’s 84 not out included nine four's and six sixes in a blazing knock while his captain was also unbeaten on a savagely attacking 46 not out.

The final tally saw the home team finish on 190-5.

Captain Matt Millward said despite being on the losing side, it was a momentous occasion to play at The Meadows.

“It was a great day for everyone involved in the club,” he said.

“We have formed a good partnership with Nairn with a few of our boys heading through to help them out. But to actually have a game, at home, in front of an enthusiastic group was brilliant.

“We’re so grateful for Nairn for fitting us into their schedule and playing the game in the right spirit."

Dornoch Cricket Club train at the Meadows on Tuesday nights at 6.30pm with new members welcome to attend.
