The Brora team requested a recount after Royal Dornoch were mistakenly announced as winners of the Miller Quaich.

Surprised by an announcement that Royal Dornoch had won the inter-club competition played at Brora on Sunday, the home team members asked for a recount, after which they emerged as winners of the competition for only the second time since 1999.

A programming error in an Excel file caused the mistake that placed Royal Dornoch as winners but after correction the home team emerged with 314 points to win by six points from holders Tain.

The Brora secretary has written to the three other clubs involved — Golspie, Royal Dornoch and Tain — who have all accepted the changed result without question.

Brora’s top individual stableford points scorer in the team of 14, where the best 12 scores are counted, was Donald Sutherland with 32 points, followed by James MacBeath with 31.

In the final reckoning Royal Dornoch fell back to third place with 299 points and Golspie fourth with 283 points.

Completing Brora’s accumulation of points were Richard Sutherland 30, Robin Wilson 28, Lesley Beaney and Bernard Ledwith each 26, Ali Dunn 25, Ken Lorimer, Pat Ashe and George Sutherland each 24, Anne Clarke and Shaun Ashe each 22. Non-counting cards came from Billy Bell and Angela Grant.

Club secretary Maggie Vass was the best of the Tain scorers with 31 points, while Dornoch’s best was 30 from Tony Bartlett and Golspie’s best effort came from Tim Featherstone on 31 points.
