The Highland League will be reduced to 16 games during the 2020/21 season and will start on Saturday, October 17.

The SHFL League Management Committee met earlier today and decided the shortened season due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The league championship will be based on a single fixture between the 17 teams so that each club has eight home and eight away fixtures.

It has also been confirmed the Highland League Cup format will change to one using group stages and will take place during early 2020-2021.

The semi finals and final of the 2019-2020 Utilita Highland League Cup will be completed by late November.

Brora Rangers are due to face Buckie Thistle with Formartine to face Rothes in the semi finals of last season's competition.
