Brora Rangers cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Scottish Football League side Stirling Albion.

It was Brora’s first victory of the season, but on this showing they will certainly make their mark in the Highland League this season.

The visitors made a bright start to the match and Albion player-manager Greig McDonald headed narrowly over the crossbar in the sixth minute.

Brora threatened five minutes later when Stuart Golabek whipped in a deep cross for Gary Kerr but he headed wide of the upright.

The home side deservedly took the lead in the 24th minute when Ritchie Hart fired low into the net from 25 yards after some good possession.

Hart set up trialist Craig Campbell with a chance a minute later but he skied his shot from the edge of the box.

The home side opened up the Albion defence again in the 29th minute when Hart and MacKay linked up well but Campbell and Kerr both failed to get the final touch in front of goal.

Campbell should have done better when he was clean through on goal a minute later but he fluffed his shot with only Albion keeper Mark Peat to beat.

Albion started the second half on the front foot and Ross McGeachie was not far away with a long range shot in the 53rd minute.

But it was the home side who went 2-0 up in the 63rd minute when Hart sent a high ball into the Albion box and Campbell got there before Peat to flick a header into the net.

The home side stretched their lead five minutes later when substitute Andrew Greig hit the inside of the post and fellow sub Liam Baxter was left with a simple tap-in.

Brora were well in control but the home goal survived a scare when a 30-yard drive from Marc McCulloch rebounded off the base of the post.

A good run by Martin MacLean in the 86th minute almost led to another goal for the home side but Baxter failed to connect with his cross.

Brora Rangers – Allan, Lamb, Golabek, Hind, M MacLean, Gibb, Gillespie, Hart, Kerr, MacKay, Campbell.

BRORA make the short trip to Golspie for their North of Scotland Cup first round tie against Golspie Sutherland at King George V Park on Wednesday (August 1) — kick-off 7.30pm.
