The Cattachs have brought in centre back Matthew Strachan from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who was captain of the under-18s side, on loan until January.

Strachan has also made six appearances for the Caley Jags first team, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Nairn County.

In addition, the club have brought in goalkeeper Danny Gillan from Inverness Caledonian Thistle and full back Ryan Hardie from Ross County.

MacDonald says it was important to him to create competition in all positions.

He is happy with the personnel he has brought in and is not ruling out bringing in more players.

He said: “We looked at a couple of positions where we didn’t have any competition at all.

“It was guaranteed I was playing left-back, Tom Kelly was playing right-back, Andy Macrae and Jordan MacRae were going to be playing up front.

“We brought in in Paul Brindle, which allows you to change the shape and challenge the boys.

“We brought in Ross Hardie, who was outstanding on Wednesday.

“We also brought in Matthew Strachan on loan from Inverness, who looked comfortable in the second half when he replaced me at half-time, which allowed me to focus a bit more on the management side.

“We have also got Danny Gillan in goals, so from that side we’re very happy with what we’ve got.

“We’re still looking to add a couple more, which will hopefully bring us on a little more.”

Brora Rangers are back in Highland League action tomorrow when they head to Rothes.

The Cattachs got their Highland League campaign off to a good start when they beat Nairn County 1-0.

Andy Macrae scored the winner in the 93rd minute at Station Park.

Rothes suffered a 4-1 defeat against Huntly in the opening day of the season and MacDonald says he will be expecting a reaction from the Speysiders tomorrow.

“We know what quality Rothes have got and we would 100% expect a response from them from last Saturday.

“While it was a shock result, it was the first game of the season, so without the highlights, we don’t know exactly what went on.

“Listen, Rothes will be hurting and they will be wanting to rectify that.

“I know they like to beat us, so we will need to be right at it if we want to get something from it.

“No one is hiding from the fact our focus is on the Highland League this year. We want to go and challenge at the top again.

“We were a few points off it last year. I think the new pitch here could make a difference to us. Hopefully we can now go on to another level and really close the gap between ourselves, Buckie Thistle and Brechin City.“
