Brora Rangers have confirmed the identity of their new manager – and it is a familiar face around Dudgeon Park.

The Cattachs have moved to re-appoint Steven Mackay as first team boss, with David Hinds also returning to Brora as his assistant.

Mackay had been a player for the club when they won their first ever Highland League title in 2014, going on to retain the crown in 2015, and scored 210 goals in 246 league appearances for B.

He became player/manager in 2018, and from the dugout led Brora to two more Highland League titles, as well as adding North of Scotland Cup trophies to the cabinet.

The former Ross County player also masterminded the club’s 2-1 victory over Hearts in the Scottish Cup in March 2021, which went down as one of the biggest surprise results in the competition’s history.

Shortly after the start of the 2021/22 season, though, Mackay stepped down as Brora Rangers manager.

He would go on to serve as assistant to Gavin Price at Elgin City, and briefly played for Rothes, before returning to Highland League management with Nairn County in October 2022.

Last November, he secured the Wee County’s first trophy in 11 years in the form of the North of Scotland Cup, beating Ross County after extra time in the final after seeing off Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the semi final.

Now, he had returned to Dudgeon Park to replace Ally MacDonald, and will be hoping to add even more success to his – and the club’s – record.
