BONAR Bridge manager Fraser Heath stepped in between the sticks as he played goalkeeper to help his team get their first win of the North Caledonian League campaign with a 4-2 win over Nairn County A at Migdale.

With no experience of playing as goalkeeper, Heath was forced to take the gloves due to nobody being available to take the position last weekend.

Bonar Bridge took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes, with Adam Mackay and Jack Corbett both finding the net.

Corbett made it 3-0 with his second goal two minutes after the break, but Nairn pulled one back through Robbie Lean.

Bruce Urquhart restored Bonar’s three goal advantage in the 55th minute and despite Kieran Thompson pulling one back for Nairn midway through the second half, the hosts comfortably saw out the game.

Heath says he would never describe himself as a natural goalkeeper, but says he was pleased to play his part to grab their first win.

“I played in goals on Saturday and I thought I did all right, but I will leave that for the other boys to decide,” says Heath.

“I’m not sure if I will be going back into goals, it all depends who is available.

“It is good to have a back up option when needed, but I still like being on the sidelines and watching the game from there.

“Goalkeeper is not a position that I would consider myself to be natural in.”

Heath says Bonar Bridge’s performances have improved as the season has gone and is glad that it is now justified with points.

“The win has been a long time coming,” he said.

“The boys were well up for it on Saturday and being on top didn’t surprise.

“It is what they deserved as we have put in a lot of effort without getting any reward.

“It is good to see that we are finally getting some points.”

Bonar Bridge will be looking for their second victory of the league campaign tomorrow as they are heading north to take on struggling Halkirk United at Morrison Park.
