Alyth wins north athletics' title

MORE than 40 runners from East Sutherland Athletics Club travelled to Forres on Saturday for round four of the North Cross Country League.

Alyth Gollan ran superbly to win the race for under-11 girls and in doing so, secured the overall North League title for this season.

Nine-year-old Anya Morrison, who was running her first race in the North League, produced a stunning result by finishing second and with Eva Morrison 5th, Olivia Bannerman 10th, Chloe Barnsby 14th and Annie Nankivell 19th, also gave this talented group the team gold.

The under-11 boys also took team gold thanks to fine performances from Kenneth Patience 2nd, Sam Bryan 4th Tom Simco 10th and Jamie Lockie 27th.

Jessica McCulloch 10th, led the under-13 girls to team bronze with good support from Catriona Scott 12th and Fiona Soszka 17th.

Struan Oliver-Jones again finished strongly to take sixth place in the under-13 boys’ race with Shane Turney 16th, completing the scoring.

It was team gold also for the under-15 girls with Lauren McCulloch 4th, Helen Gordon 6th and Sophie Morrison 9th.

Keir Beaton produced his best result of the season to finish third in the under-15 boys’ race and with great support from Eoghann Gollan 4th, Fraser Roach 6th, Iain Morrison 12th and Duncan Macleod 15th, claimed another team gold for ESAC.

The under-17 girls have had a superb season and once again took the team gold with Catriona Gordon 4th, Rosie Nankivell 5th, Rebecca Mathieson 6th and Rebekah Bryan 7th.

The under-17 boys had to settle for team silver despite the best efforts of Liam Barnsby 3rd, Ruairdh Oliver-Jones 5th and Ruairidh Gollan 8th.

Eilidh MacRae again showed great strength to win the race for under-20 women and Ross Gollan won the equivalent race for men by taking a brilliant fourth place in the senior men’s race. The scoring was completed by Ross Bannerman 18th, Blair Mackay 42nd and David Bryan 47th.

Sheila Gollan produced another quality performance by taking third place in the senior women’s race and received good support from Audrey Scott 25th,

Nerys Law 26th and Belinda McCulloch 35th.
