Young Invershin chanter player notches up second big win of year

A YOUNG Sutherland chanter player has achieved a second big musical win this year.

Ruby Stevenson, of Invershin, took home a handsome shield after coming top in the 10 and under category of Inverness Piping Society’s junior piping competition, held at the city's Army Reserve Centre last Saturday.

The P5 Bonar Bridge Primary School pupil also won the primary school chanter competition at the Dornoch Highland Games on August 4.

Ruby has only been learning the chanter for a year and her teacher is Cameron MacDougall. However she does have some help from her dad, Gary. who is a piper.

Mum Elissa, an active schools coordinator, said: “We are so proud of her.”
