For the past three years, senior football club Golspie Sutherland FC have surprised children participating in the village's junior football set up with a Christmas gift as a reward for their efforts throughout the year.

In 2020, youngsters at GS Juniors received a gift club t-shirts. The following year, they were given club warm up tops.

This year, members at Golspie Sutherland elected to go for something a bit more 'winter-themed', presenting the aspiring group of footballers with a set of attractive royal blue bobble hats, adorned with their club logo.

Adam Sutherland, a senior player and committee member with Golspie Sutherland FC who also acts as coach with GS Juniors, presented the children with their new hats last week.

He said: "The kids are absolutely delighted with them. We have started to see items from previous years appear throughout the community and even at games which is great to see.

"It has become a bit of a tradition since Covid to give a Christmas present to the oldest primary aged football team at GS Juniors.

"This year, there were 20 kids in the squad. Most are based in Golspie but we have some from Helmsdale and Rogart too. The club is open to all.

"The aim of GS Juniors is to nurture and encourage involvement in football and sports in general."

The club encourages kids of all primary ages to come along to their sessions on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 6pm at the Golspie astro pitch.
