The Met Office issued a Yellow Warning for tonight (Tuesday, March 29) and tomorrow for snow and ice affecting the far north.
Issued at 10.17am today the bulletin reads: "Wintry showers on Tuesday evening will turn increasingly to snow and hail during the early hours of Wednesday.
"This will lead to ice forming on untreated surfaces. Snow accumulations of 1-2cm are likely above 100 metres elevation and 2-5cm above 200-300 metres. Wintry showers will continue during daylight hours on Wednesday, but additional lying snow will be mostly over higher hills and mountains."
What to expect
- Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, leading to an increased likelihood of accidents and injuries.
- Some roads and railways are likely to be affected by snow, resulting in longer journey times by car, bus and train.
