New passing places are set to be built and improved on the A836.

New passing places are due to be created on the north coast road as part of preliminary works related to the construction of Sutherland Spaceport.

Orbex, which is behind the development of the space satellite launch facility at A' Mhoine, west of Tongue, said work would start imminently on the A836.

A total of 17 locations between Tongue and Bettyhill will have lay-bys created, extended or resurfaced.

The contractor, John Gunn and Sons Ltd, will begin at the first passing place located to the north of the Naver Bridge and work westward.

Road users are told that traffic will be managed using stop/go boards, with delays minimised "as far as practically possible".

Work on the passing places is expected to be complete by mid-July 2023.
