Woman rescued in middle of night from sea off Dornoch beach

The inshore rescue lifeboat which serves the Dornoch Firth area was called out in the middle of the night yesterday.

Coastguards tasked East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA) to go to the rescue of a women in distress in water off Dornoch beach.

Antony Hope, spokesman for the independent, voluntary association, said the coastguard call was received at just after 1am and the rescue boat was deployed within 10 minutes.

He said: "Luckily ESRA crew spotted a young female casualty and provided first aid and warm blankets until paramedics arrived. She was very cold.

"ESRA stood down at 1.45am and informed coastguard HQ they were turned around and ready for further tasking at 2.10am."
