Ullapool resident, Effie Maclean, who is soon to be 96 years old, has knitted a poppy tribute for Ullapool's War Memorial with her group of knitters.

The tribute had received over 400 likes and comments commending the project over social media, ahead of Remembrance Sunday tomorrow.

Effie said that the project didn't take the group long at all, since the idea to create a knitted poppy memorial was very 'spur of the moment' and they just 'mucked in' and got it done.

She said: "We always did poppies and things like that, we did it for the Ullapool Garden of Reflection, but it was my daughter who thought about putting it round the memorial.

"It didn't take us long to do because we didn't have much time! It was a late thought. It looks quite nice, and I suppose we will be asked to knit more for next year!"

Fellow knitters for the poppy project were Jessie Osborne, Ann MacNicol and Irene Duthie.

Effie continued: "We are in Serve Our Seniors (SOS), a group of for older people. When my daughter mentioned the idea, I just asked the others and everyone just mucked in, and that was it. We have a group that meets on a Thursday in the local library, where we do knitting for charities, for premature babies and such like."
