HOPES are high that the wildlife and beautiful landscapes of Sutherland might feature in the next series of one of the UK's much loved TV shows.

Springwatch is understood to be scouting out a location near Lairg for possible wildlife filming for use in the next run of the popular BBC wildlife series.

Kaye Hurrion, the chairwoman of Lairg and District Community Initiatives (LDCI), said she had been contacted by the production team to signal their intent to film in the Lairg area after being alerted to the area's black throated divers by a local resident.

Speaking at the latest meeting of Lairg Community Council, she said: "A production team from Springwatch contacted me. They want to come to Lairg. Someone wrote to them about black throated divers.

"They are looking for a place where they can film. Now looking to see if they can come down to Little Loch Shin. They are approaching Highland Council to see if they can set up some hide or camera on the little spit or wharf by the sailing club.

"I don't think Chris Packham is coming up only a cameraman."
