A WONDERFUL, colourful show of wildflowers is now on full display at the Battle of Littleferry memorial stone site in Golspie.

Seedlings were planted by primary 6/7 pupils from Golspie Primary School in May.

The memorial commemorates the April 15, 1746, battle between Jacobite forces and government troops, and is dedicated to the fallen on both sides.

The official dedication of the stone took place on that date this year when around 300 people gathered at the site for the poignant ceremony.

Throughout this year various other events are also taking place.

Pupils from Golspie, Dornoch, Brora and Rogart primary schools have been invited to take part in a workshop in Golspie next month which will take them through all aspects of the history of the battle.

And in November, there will be a tree planting and story telling project, again with Golspie Primary School children.

Fifty oak saplings are to be planted in memory of the fallen and these will reinforce a former line of trees running north-west from the memorial on Ferry Road.

A book, The Battle of Littleferry, A History and Trail Guide, is available. For information on how to order it, visit the Battle of Littleferry Facebook page.
