Wick singer found dead in Glasgow as police search for missing person

A singer and actress from Wick has been found dead at her Glasgow home while police hunt for a missing person in the area.

The woman's body was found at a property in the Craigton area of the city on Tuesday morning, police said.

She has been named locally as Marelle Sturrock, a 35-year-old primary school teacher who was also pregnant.

The discovery came after officers received a concern for person call and they attended the Jura Street home.

A search for a missing person at Mugdock Country Park on the outskirts of the city is being linked to the death.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Kelly said: “We were made aware of concern for a woman at a property on Jura Street in Glasgow shortly after 8.40am on Tuesday, April 25.

"Officers attended and the body of a 35-year-old woman was found within.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries remain ongoing. Officers have been carrying out extensive searches of Mugdock Country Park in relation to a missing person in the area.

“This is being treated as linked to the death at Jura Street and enquiries remain ongoing. Our thoughts are very much with everyone affected by this tragic incident.

“There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public but anyone with information or concerns can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of April 25.

"A police presence will remain at both locations as enquiries continue and anyone with information is also urged to speak to any of our officers.”

Marelle grew up in Wick before leaving to study musical theatre when she was 17. She attended Wick High School and was involved in the local Music, Arts, Dance, Drama (MADD) Society as a teenager.
