DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd yesterday sold 900 sheep and 21 cattle.

Prime bullocks (14) averaged 284.4p per kg (-2.5p) and sold to 299.0p per kg for a 575kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Kincraig Farm, Invergordon selling to Messrs Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall and £1,996.60 gross for a 670kg Limousin cross from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair.

Prime Heifers (7) averaged 288.7p per kg (-22.3p) and sold to 306.0p per kg for a 580kg Limousin from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall and £1,981.00 gross for a 700kg Charolais cross from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair.

New Season Lambs (12) sold to 313.0p per kg (+11.0p) and £150 gross for a pen of 48kg Charollais crosses from Craigiebank Farms, Forgie.

Old Season Lambs (422) averaged 242.1p per kg (-28.7p) and sold to 289.0p per kg for a 40kg Texel cross from 5c Balnabeen, Conon Bridge and £136 gross for a pen of 57kg Texel crosses from Achtemerack, Drumnadrochit.

SQQ Lambs 25.5kg to 45.5kg (291) averaged 240.16.

Feeding Sheep (466) sold to £278 gross for Texel ewes from 379A Garynamonie, South Uist.

The verdict after the sale: “A tale of two halves continues to take precedence in the hogg ring. Well-fleshed hoggs continued to meet a firm enquiry, whilst the leaner end is noticeably cheaper.

"Ewe trade remains firm and many more again could easily have been sold.”
