TODAY (Friday, March 8)

Fibre Fest

The 15th annual Dornoch Fibre Fest kicks off at the West Church Hall tonight at 7.30pm with a talk by Scottish artist Andrew Crummy entitled Scottish Tapestries and Beyond.

The fibre fest runs on Saturday and Sunday at the West Church Hall, Dornoch Social Club, Dornoch Community Hub and the Free Church.

A selection of panels from the Tapestry of the Highlands and Islands will be on display at the Free Church on Saturday.

There are a range of workshops as well as trade stands to browse round and a competition for the wackiest festival hat. For more information, visit: fibrefest.org.uk

Kyle of Sutherland Cinema Club film night at Bonar Bridge Community Hall tonight 7.30pm.

Saturday, March 9

Coffee Morning

Brora Wanderers coffee morning and raffle at Brora Rangers Social Club on Saturday 10am-1pm. £3 entry.

Helmsdale United Football Club coffee morning at Bunillidh Sports Club on Saturday 10am-1pm.

Community Market

North Coast Market’s first market of the year at Bettyhill Village Hall tomorrow 11am-3pm. Food and crafts; home-made soup, homebaking, teas and coffees available all day.

St Trolla’s

Eucharist and Installation of Wardens Service at the Crask Inn, tomorrow 2pm. The Most Reverend Mark Strange, Bishop of Moray, Ross and Caithness will lead the service for the installation of Shane and Mack Sieweke as the church wardens of St Trolla’s at the Crask Inn. A reception in the pub to follow. All are welcome.

Walk

Guided walk at Invernaver on Saturday 11am-2.40pm. Meeting point is east of the River Naver bridge. (w3w index.excusing.thundered). £8 per person.

Fadia’s Tree

Timespan Museum and Arts Centre, Helmsdale, is hosting artist and director Sarah Beddington for a screening of her film Fadia’s Tree on Saturday 5pm. The film is a story about the Palestinian diaspora, belonging, memory and friendship. There will be an opportunity afterwards to have a conversation with Sarah.

Poetry Evening

Helmsdale Writers Circle evening of poetry, spoken word and song at Othin House, Helmsdale on Saturday 7pm-10.15pm. An opportunity to share your own writing.

Live Music

Award winning fiddle player Ryan Young performs at Old School, Embo, on Saturday 7.30am-10pm. Ryan will be accompanied by guitarist Gillie O’Flaherty from Ullapool and support is from singer/songwriter David Delacroix, from Southern Maine and now living in Golspie. Tickets from Eventbrite.

Musical Evening

Sutherland Accordion and Fiddle Club musical evening at Rogart Hall tomorrow 8pm. Guest artiste is Ewan Galloway. Admission including tea £5. Under 16s £2.

Bike workshop

Guided Walk

Countryside ranger guided walk around Loch a’Mhuilinn national nature reserve, near Scourie, on Thursday 11am-2pm. Meet at the car park just off the main A894, three miles south of Scourie. Over 18s only. Book via Eventbrite

Brora Art Group

Brora Art Group showcases members' work at the Bowling Club, Golf Road, Brora, on Thursday 2pm-7pm. Some works will be for sale. Go along and meet the artists and have a cup of tea and scone.
