Live Music

Addie Harper and Friends at the Hut, Bettyhill, on Friday from 11am. Tea, coffee and treats.

Ceilidh

Auld New Year ceilidh at the Doll Hall on Friday from 7.30pm. Featuring Ruairidh Gollan and Zoe Livings. Bring your own instrument or voice to join in with a tune or two. Donations accepted at the door.

Author’s Talk

Local author Philip Paris will give a talk on Scottish witchcraft trials at Tarbat Discovery Centre tonight 7.30pm.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 13

Gaelic Conversation

Gaelic speakers of all levels (fluent and beginners) are invited to Golspie Heritage Centre at Station Road on Saturday 10.30am-12.30pm for an informal chat over a cup of tea and coffee. Run by Lairg and District Learning Centre and Bord na Gaidhlig. No need to book but feel free to get in touch if you plan to attend. Contact: manager@lairglearningcentre.org.uk

Music Group

The first session of a new traditional music group takes place on Saturday at Meikle Ferry Station 3pm-5pm. Learn and play tunes together. All ages and abilities welcome. Music provided - non music readers welcome. No booking required, just turn up.

Mending Socks

Fearn Free Food Garden event at Piper’s Coffee House, Tain, on Sunday from 2pm. A demonstration on how to mend holes in socks using a speed weave. Bring along your holey socks and get shown how to fix them quickly and easily. An informal event with hobby enthusiasts sharing their knowledge and passions

Cooking

Family after school cooking at the Kyle of Sutherland Hub on Monday 3.15pm-4.45pm. Make pinwheels and empire biscuits. Free event but booking essential.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 16

Cook and Chat

Adult Cook, Eat and Chat at the Kyle of Sutherland Hub on Tuesday 11.30am-1pm. Make savoury muffins and mini sweet tarts. A free event but booking essential.

Geoheritage Talk

Dr Hannah Mathers, a lecturer in Geography and Earth Science at the University of Glasgow will give a geoheritage talk online on Tuesday 7.30pm-9pm as part of the North West Highlands Geopark’s Geoheritage Festival.

The talk, entitled ‘Erratic behaviour: reading North West Highlands Geopark glacial history from strange mountain-top boulders', will look at the amazing ‘storytelling’ potential of erratic boulders in narrating the climatic and environmental history of the geopark. COUNTRY DANCING

Second session of the new season of Ardgay Country Dance Club at Ardgay Public Hall on Tuesday from 7pm. Every Tuesday thereafter until April 23. £3 per person or £35 for 16 weeks. Any level of dancers welcome along with spectators. Contact: David Hannah 01863 766061

Youth Group

The newly established Brora Youth Group meets on Wednesday 7pm-8.30pm and also on Friday 6pm-7.30pm. Games, music, friends, free food and drinks. The youth group is run by Brora Development Trust and is free to all secondary school aged young people.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 18

Assynt Elm Project

Elm tree sapling planting at Little Assynt Tree Nursery on Thursday 1pm-3pm. Part of the Assynt Elm Project run by Culag Commuity Woodland Trust and Assynt Field Club. Botanist Dr Max Coleman from the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, and artist Isabel MacLeish will be present.
