LAIRG CROFTERS' SHOW

Lairg Crofters' Show takes place at the show field, off the village’s Main Street, on Saturday (August 26). Established in 1911, the event is the last remaining crofters’ show in mainland Britain.

There is plenty to see and do with a horse show, dog show, sheep and cattle livestock classes, dog agility, Highland dancing competition, industrial tent and various craft, trade and charity stalls, and much more. Also, don’t miss the large vintage machinery display.

Sutherland Schools Pipe Band and the Caledonian Pipe Band will lead the parade and the show Queen and her attendants will preside over the event.

CEILIDH NIGHT

Ceilidh Night at Rogart Mart tomorrow (Friday, August 25) from 7.30pm with Strath Fleet Buttons and Bows plus various artistes. Includes a tribute to the late Alasdair Waddell. Raffle; BYOB. Tickets £8, at the door.

Film Night

Dornoch Cinema Club meets at Dornoch Community Centre (Social Club) tomorrow (Friday, August 25), from 7pm. Raffle.

SUMMER PARTY

Durness and Kinlochbervie Church of Scotland’s women’s summer party at Kinlochbervie Village Hall tomorrow (Friday, August 25) from 7.30pm. Food, games, chat, a quiz and much more. A free event but booking required. Contact: 01971 521287.

The church is also holding an afternoon for women at Kinlochbervie Village Hall on Saturday, August 26. The main speaker is Rev Terry Taylor. Cost £5 including lunch (served at 12.30pm). Booking required - ring the number above.

TALK

John Barber and Graeme Cavers of AOC Achaeology will give a presentation entitled ‘Clachtoll Broch and Borralan Cairn Excavations’ at Stoer Village Hall tomorrow (Friday, August 25) from 7.30pm. Part of Historic Assynt’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

COFFEE MORNINGS

Bunillidh Church of Scotland (Helmsdale) coffee morning and sale of work on Saturday, August 26, 11am-1pm.

Friends of the Bradbury Centre silver anniversary coffee morning on Saturday, August 26, 10am-noon at the Bradbury Centre.

Golspie community market at Fountain Road Hall on Saturday, August 26, 10am-2pm.

Sutherland Walkers

Join Sutherland Walkers on a seven-mile trek at Ben Hee, which rises above Loch Merkland on the eastern edge of Reay Forest, on Sunday, August 27, from 10.20am. Also an optional, low-level, self-guided walk towards Gobernuisgach. Car share available. Contact Russell Wood on 07774 117202.

WALK AND WORKSHOP

Join Jorine van Delft for a short walk at Achmelvich on Sunday, August 27, 11am-3pm to find plants suitable for dyeing, and use them to create some wonderful colours of nature. Meet at Achmvelvich car park. To book, ring Charlie Leeson 07714 242 046.

Guided Walk

Countryside ranger guided 10km walk at Assynt on Monday 11am-3pm. Meet at Clachtoll Beach car park. Book via eventbrite.

BEEKEEPING FOR BEGINNERS

Kyle of Sutherland Growing Group is holding a Beekeeping for Beginners session at Invershin Community Hall on Monday, August 28, 7pm-9pm. Ring Jen on 01863 760 190 for more information.

Wildflower workshop

Meadow making workshop at the Barn, Ardgay, on Tuesday, August 29, 10am-12.30pm. Learn about the importance of wildflower meadows and the species they support. After a short break, participants will walk to Gearchoille Community Woodland to learn how to identify native wildflowers. Entry by donation. A countryside ranger event - book via eventbrite.

Food and Drink Festival

Outdoor food and drink festival at the Duthuc Centre car park, Tain on Wednesday, August 30, 5pm-9pm.
