Ullapool community affected by baby tragedy offered support from local minister
MEMBERS of a Ross-shire community in shock over the tragic death of a baby earlier this week are being offered support.
Emergency services were alerted to reports of a person in the water near Ullapool Harbour on Monday afternoon.
A baby boy was rescued from the water and taken to Raigmore Hospital by air ambulance.
Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The tragic incident has understandably rocked the close-knit community.
Church of Scotland minister, Rev Heidi Jones Hercus, has reached out to anyone needing support or time to reflect on her social media page.
She posted: "I am aware the awful tragedy on Monday has affected the whole village in some way. "If you need a little quiet time, or want to say a prayer, I will open the Church of Scotland for space, or quiet reflection this afternoon and tomorrow morning. I am here too if anyone needs a hug or a chat or a prayer."
Lochbroom and Ullapool Parish Church is on Mill Street.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.20pm on Monday, October 16, we were called to a report of a person in the water at Ullapool Harbour, Shore Street in Ullapool.
"Emergency services attended and a baby boy was rescued from the water.
“The baby was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by air ambulance. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
“An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances. However, the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
