The owners of a popular Tain pub are in celebratory mood after scooping the prize for Best Licensed Premises in the Highland heat of Scotland’s Business Awards.

Star Inn proprietors Scott Crombie and Caroline Henderson attended the Inverness-based semi-finals of this year’s awards at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on Sunday.

They were accompanied by friends Alasdair Mackintosh, Aimee Mackintosh, David Purvis snr and David Purvis jnr.

The pub, which has only been operating for a year, was shortlisted for the category back in March.

A “gobsmacked” Mr Crombie quickly became the life and soul of the night as he stepped up to collect the award.

Mr Crombie said: “To win this award came as a huge surprise to us both. We were just honoured to be a finalist. We were gobsmacked when our name was read out, to thunderous applause I may add!

“I went up on my own to collect the award, and I had a small snippet of a speech prepared just in case, but that all went out my head walking up. So, I grabbed the mic and award, raised the award above my head and shouted, ‘winner winner, chicken dinner’ and then left the stage to uproar. I’m mortified now.

“It seemed to have left an impression on the rest of the attendees as numerous people mentioned that catchphrase to me during the course of the night!

“We want to thank everyone who not just voted for us, but have also supported us throughout this first year. We might be front and centre, but this is their pub. We hope that we can do everyone proud at the grand finals in November.”

The national final for this year’s Scotland’s Business Awards will be held in Glasgow in November.
