Brora honoured its war dead earlier today with a parade through the centre of the village and a service at Clyne War Memorial where a large crowd gathered. Traffic was stopped on the trunk road through the village for the event.

The parade formed up in the lorry park next to the Scout and Guide Hall in Gower Street at around 10.30am with piper Danny Parkin at its head. Parade commander was Sergeant Martin Clyne of the 1st Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force.

Community leaders and representatives of local groups and organisations took part in the event including Sutherland Lord Lieutenant Dr Monica Main and Brora Community Council chairman Russell Rekhy.

The service was led by Rev Lorna Tunstall, Church of Scotland minister at Brora and Helmsdale. Waves of poppies were draped over the side walls of the memorial.

Displays of poppies were not confined to the war memorial but could also be seen all round the village. The displays were originally made by community groups for the 100th anniversary of World War 1 in 2018.
