The Inverness based National Treatment Centre - Highland (NTCH) has admitted its first patients and is aiming to reduce waiting times for patients across Highland.

It offers ophthalmology and orthopaedic services to surrounding communities in a new, purpose-built facility at Inverness campus.

The new centre will host NHS Highland’s entire eye care service, including surgical and outpatient facilities.

The NTC will also deliver a range of elective orthopaedic care, offering uncomplicated hip and knee replacements, foot, ankle and hand surgery.

Colin McNair the NTC's clinical director and an orthopaedic surgeon is delighted to see the first patients pass through.

The new facility has five operating theatres, 24 beds, 13 consultation rooms, clinics and outpatient departments.

A patient and staff café, children’s play area and serene garden courtyard provide opportunities for patients and their guests to rest and restore.

The Inverness centre is part of a national network of 10 NTC funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by NHS Highland.

The presence on Inverness Campus of the Life Sciences Innovation Centre and the NTCH will allow greater collaboration between NHS staff, researchers and businesses to innovate in the field of health and life sciences.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is the developer of Inverness Campus where the NTCH is located.
