Wintry conditions in Sutherland tonight.
Wintry conditions in Sutherland tonight.

The Met Office and Traffic Scotland are warning of wintry showers in Sutherland later tonight.

They say a combination of low temperatures and a mix of rain, sleet and snow is already leading to the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces in the north west later this evening and tonight.

The public should be aware of the risk of ice and locally some snow covered surfaces.

At present, road surface temperatures are below freezing in many places. More persistent rain will edge into the north west, turning to snow on higher ground.

Cloudy tonight with rain and snow on higher ground at first, then drier and clearer with widespread frost and road surface temperatures again falling well below freezing.

Wintry showers will follow in Caithness and Sutherland later.
