Two fundraising LeJoG cyclists were given a royal welcome when they arrived in Golspie today.

Husband and wife Alexander (52) and Jane Gibson (53), from Christchurch in Dorset, were piped into the village by Erin Johnstone (17), the Doll, Brora, a pipe major with Sutherland Schools Pipe Band.

And the couple were ushered into Golspie Heritage Society's headquarters - at the south end of the village - where the Sutherland flag fluttered from the flagpole .

Waiting for them was Alexander's father, Sandy Gibson, a retired production engineer and Golspie native, who also now lives in Christchurch but is a frequent visitor to his home village.

Making up the reception committee were members of Golspie Heritage Society, who provided the cyclists with welcome refreshments.

Alexander, an engineer/buyer and Jane, a nurse, are keen cyclists and have toured Europe on their bikes.

The pair hope to raise at least £1000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through their Land's End to John O'Groats challenge..

They set aside 20 days for the 1000 mile trip and have kept to their rigid schedule and were well on track to reach the finish line.
