BRORA Wanderers football team will make their return to the ranks of amateur football in 2023 with a new logo designed by a Brora primary school pupil adorning their shirts.
The new badge, drawn by Lucy Macleod, was chosen from several designs drawn by pupils at the school. For her efforts, she was awarded a voucher for Capaldi's of Brora.
Club member Andy Maclennan said: "Since returning to training in July we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community. Three local businesses have kindly contributed to the cost of our new kits. Our main shirt sponsor is A M Dunbar with D Freeman Builder and Sutherland Carpets on each sleeve.
"The new kit also displays our new club crest, featuring some of our rich industrial heritage, such as the coal mine and brick works.
“For the back of the shirt, we wanted to involve the village – so we invited the children at Brora primary school to design a badge, and we are delighted with the winning choice. Lucy's badge is a very colourful drawing showing the sand, sea, hills and sun."
The original "Brora Wanderers" team was formed at Hunters of Brora Woollen Mill in 1966 by brothers Ted and Sid Gregory. The team consisted mainly of workers from the mill and practice took place behind it. But with no pitch to use in Brora, they would drive to whichever village they had to in order to play football, earning them the name, Wanderers.
But despite their nomadic history, they have been a club deeply connected to the village community.
Mr Maclennan added: "Going forward, we feel it is hugely important that we remain a community focussed club. We want to ensure there is a team for Brora youngsters to step up to once they move on from Mini Kickers and Clyne Colts.
"We also plan to make our home games a family event followed by a night of entertainment in Brora Rangers social club."
