Visitors to the Rosebank and Bignold wards at Caithness General Hospital have been restricted due to Covid within the hospital.

NHS Highland said both wards remained open but those wishing to visit patients should contact the relevant nurse in charge first.

A spokeswoman for NHS Highland said: "We have restricted visiting due to an increased number of patients with Covid but the wards are not closed.

"Anyone wishing to visit is asked to please speak to the nurse in charge first."

It follows a recent temporary reintroduction of some Covid restrictions at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway. The health board there asked staff and visitors to wear masks, as well as restricting visitors, over a few days.

Scotland's national clinical director Jason Leitch told BBC Scotland's The Sunday Show last weekend that there had been an upsurge in cases nationally and that they are "concerned about winter".

He urged members of the public to get vaccinated for flu and Covid if invited, and to not mix with other people if they are not well.
