Lairg Learning Centre is celebrating its 21st anniversary by asking people who have attended its courses and classes to share their stories.

The popular learning centre marked its milestone date last Friday, November 25.

LDLC was set up as a charity in 2001 to meet a demand for learning at a local level.

The village’s disused school house was renovated and opened in April, 2004.

“Since then, our learner numbers and our range of classes and workshops have expanded year-on-year,” the group posted on its social media site.

“During the pandemic we adapted our way of working and we now deliver a variety of classes and learning in-person, digitally and blended.

“We deliver to communities across Sutherland as well as internationally.”

The post continues: “The types of learning we deliver vary from structured and accredited courses such as First Aid and employability support. through to languages, growing and cooking, felting and sewing, health and wellbeing and everything in between.

“We exist as a result of our communities and we do our best to put on a wide and interesting variety of courses for everyone.”

The learning centre was inspired to ask for people’s memories because 2022 is Scotland’s Year of Stories.

“We’d love to telL LDLC’s story and we need your help to do so,” reads the post. “If you have any stories of the learning centre you’d like to share with us please get in touch. It could be a memory of a class, a tutor, an event or the school house building.”

Send your stories to: admin@lairglearningcentre.org.uk, ring 01549 402050 or visit the Old School House in person.
