Underfinished hoggs “played havoc” with Dingwall Mart sales averages

A large quantity of underfinished hoggs “played havoc” with the sales average at the latest Dingwall and Highland Marts sale.

A total of 1143 prime sheep were sold.

Prime bullocks (7) averaged 300.6p per kg and sold to 306p per kg and £1,927.80 gross.

Prime heifers (1) averaged 300.0p per kg and sold to 300.0p per kg and £1,710.00 gross.

New season lambs (11) averaged 364.1p per kg and sold to 395.0p per kg and £175 gross.

Old season lambs (312) sold to 367p per kg and £192 gross.

NSL SQQ Lambs (6) averaged 380.6p per kg.

OSL SQQ Lambs (164) averaged 321.6p per kg.

Feeding sheep (820) sold to £184 gross.

The verdict: “A very mixed offering of prime hoggs saw the best meat cash in at comparable levels on the week, however a large quantity of underfished hoggs played havoc with the sales overall average. Another mammoth number of ewes for this time of year, bucked the national trend and maintained last week’s extreme rates of return.”

Also sold were 1143 prime sheep.

New season lambs (11) averaged 364.1p per kg and sold to 395.0p per kg for a pair of 43kg Suffolks from Glendonan, Knockfarrel selling to Fraser Brother (Butchers), Dingwall and £175 gross for a pen of 46kg Suffolks also from Glendonan, Knockfarrel selling to John M Munro, (Butchers), Dingwall.

Old season lambs (312) sold to 367p per kg for a pen of 46kg Texel crosses from Overhill, Banff selling to John M Munro, (Butchers), Dingwall and £192 gross for a pen of 62kg Texel crosses from Ericht Farming, Lairg.

Feeding Sheep (820) sold to £184 gross for a Texel cross ewe from 5c Balnabeen, Conon Bridge.
