Ullapool Post Office branch to close with mobile van service to take over

Ullapool's Village Hall Post Office is set to close with a new mobile post office service from Dingwall to replace it.

Postmaster Heather Parlett has been running a temporary post office service from Ullapool Village Hall since the closure of Parlett's Convenience Store in November 2022. It previously housed the post office.

Heather will finish her last day as postmaster when the branch closes on Friday, March 29 at 5pm.

Although the Ullapool Post Office branch is closing, the Wester Ross village will still receive postal services courtesy of Dingwall's postmaster providing a mobile post office service. This is said to only be provided while the Post Office "continues to seek a permanent solution".

The Post Office said: "We are pleased to inform you that the postmaster from Dingwall Post Office is willing to offer services to the local community with the introduction of a mobile service while we continue to seek a permanent solution. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the branch.

"A mobile post office service is a tried and tested way of maintaining services to smaller communities."

The new mobile post office service will begin on Monday, April 8. It will operate on Mondays from 9.30am to 1.30pm. The Post Office has suggested Achiltibuie Post Office as an alternative, despite being about 24 miles away from Ullapool.

The Post Office has said that parking will be available close to the mobile van, with a range of services continuing to be available. There is also a step into the mobile van, with an electronic tailgate, so it is accessible for all residents. The new mobile post office will be located outside Ullapool Village Hall.
