The trip by the Minister to the RSPB field station and visitor centre at Forsinard is to show support for the project's bid to gain UNESCO World Heritage status for a designated area of the Flow Country.

Mr Stewart will tour the site on Thursday afternoon, accompanied by Dr Steven Andrews, Flow Country World Heritage Project coordinator and Frances Gunn, chairwoman of the Flow Country World Heritage Project steering group.

Also in attendance will be Graham Neville, NatureScot’s head of operations (north), and Roxane Anderson, professor of Peatland Science UHI, along with a local crofter, the RSPB Forsinard warden and local volunteers and students.

The Flow Country is the most intact and extensive blanket bog system in the world and could soon join Victoria Falls and The Rocky Mountains on UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list, with its bid for full nomination in 2024.
