One person had to be taken to hospital and a major Highland road was restricted following a two-vehicle collision this morning.

The incident was around 8.42am, just south of Tain on the A9, and traffic was affected with queues in both directions.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of a crash involving two cars on the A9 at the junction with the B9174 at Tain around 8.30am on Wednesday, December 7.

“One person has been taken to hospital and the road has since reopened.”

One witness who was passing at the time said the two vehicles had collided with the front of one completely "caved in".
