A TV producer and writer who worked on the likes of Emmerdale and EastEnders has offered top tips to a Sutherland online writing group.

Kathleen Beedles, who grew up in Rogart, joined members of the East Sutherland-based Online Creative Writing Group for one of their recent sessions.

Ms Beedles, whose long career in TV also saw her work on the Chinese adaptation of Humans and also set up long running shows Tanglin and Kin in Singapore, offered feedback to members following their most recent task.

This saw them set a task ahead of time to prepare a pitch for a second episode of a fake TV series called Sutherland Heights.

They were given character descriptions and a summary of what happened in an episode and then, during the session, they had to read out their pitch to Ms Beedles for feedback.

The group, which was set up earlier this year, is run by Helmsdale-based Connecting Communities.

Connecting Communities' Sarah Kerr said: "It has proven to be a great success. Classes are led by Helmsdale and Golspie Village Hubs Project Lead Wendy Simmonds and members have given extremely positive feedback to date.

"The group were delighted to have Kathleen join them and offer her advice. They hope to arrange an in-person meet-up with her when she is next home and restrictions on groups meeting are lifted."

The Online Writing Group takes place every Tuesday at 11am. If you are interested in joining email wendy@connectingcommunities.co.uk or call 01431 821655.
