Award winning instrumental trio Assynt will take to the stage at the Doll Hall, near Brora, on Friday, November 3.

The band chose Assynt as their name because guitarist Innes White’s grandfather came from Assynt and the trio liked a famous pipe tune called John Morrison of Assynt House.

Sutherland Sessions have organised the gig which follows the music promotor’s successful Gnoss concert in Helmsdale last Saturday.

Launched in 2018, Assynt released their debut album The Road to the North in the same year and were also awarded the Up and Coming Artist of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards.

The band comprises Graham Mackenzie (fiddle), David Shedden (pipes/whistles) and Innes White (guitar).

The group has come to be recognised for its “powerful and intuitive musicality”.

Their second studio release Where From Here has been described as “breathtakingly wonderful”.

Following their sell-out performance at Celtic Connections in January, the band has toured Germany and China as well as the UK, and are set to end the year with performances in Australia.

Andrena Ballantyne of Sutherland Sessions said: “We look forward to welcoming Assynt for the first time. Trad music lovers throughout East Sutherland have a real treat in store.”

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets £12/10 are available online from Eventbrite and also at the door.
