Riding high for the county next week will be Murray Mackay, of Rogart, and Danny Sutherland, from Brora.

For they are both taking part in one of the world’s finest motorbike endurance trials in Fort William, which takes in days of adventure on the rugged Lochaber landscape.

Murray, a garage mechanic, and Danny, a digger driver, are among a select few from Sutherland who have ever taken part in The Scottish Six Days Trial, which runs from Monday to Saturday.

The action kicks off on Friday – before the SSDT – with a two-day Pre ’65 trial taking place, based in Kinlochleven.

Then there is the buzz of the SSDT paddock on Sunday with the annual weigh-in of the competitor’s bikes.

This is followed by the traditional parade of riders along Fort William High Street in the afternoon.

The routes will certainly challenge the 282 competitors – including a daunting 90-mile event.

Motorcycling runs in both families.

Murray’s father Angus and Danny’s dad, David, were among 53 competitors at a trial in Rogart on Saturday.
