A popular Inverness family-friendly attraction is looking for support as they get ready to open next month.

Ness Islands Railway, operated by Highland Hospice, is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join its volunteer team for the 2024 season, which will begin at the end of March to coincide with the school Easter holidays.

The Inverness institution, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023, relies on volunteers, who are described as “the heartbeat of the railway”, to ensure its success year after year.

Kepa Aristizabal, deputy manager tourism and e-commerce for the organization said: “We are so excited for the 2024 season, but we need your help!

“We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic volunteers to join our volunteer team. Full training will be provided in various roles, including learning to drive one of the locomotives!”

Ness Island Railway volunteers may be tasked with greeting passengers, guiding them through the journey, and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn new skills, from operating the locomotives to contributing to the overall customer experience.

Anyone wishing to apply can do so via the Highland Hospice website or contact Karen Aristizabal at k.aristizabal@highlandhospice.org.uk.
