An army cadet from Sutherland has been appointed as the highest ranking cadet of his unit.

Tristan Jack (17), from 1st Battalion The Highlanders’ Farr Detachment in Bettyhill has been promoted as the battalion's new Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major.

RSM Jack has been in the ACF since February 2014.

During his time in the ACF he has climbed through the ranks and most recently completed his Master Cadet, the highest level in the cadet Army Proficiency Syllabus.

A role model for the younger cadets of the company and the battalion, Tristan has taken part in everything that being an Army Cadet can offer, including representing the Army Cadet Force in Canada last summer as part of an International Cadet Exchange Programme.

Tristan is also currently the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Caithness, where he assists the Lord Lieutenant, Viscount John Thurso, in his official duties as Her Majesty the Queen’s appointed representative of Caithness.

RSM Jack was appointed to his new role in the third day of the Battalion’s two week annual camp, held at Warcop Training Area in Cumbria. He took over the role of Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major from fellow Caithness Company cadet Lani Jones, who was Caithness’ first RSM since 1997.
