Top musicians to play at Lairg Crofters Show concert

Two of Scotland’s most celebrated and award-winning traditional musicians will be performing in Lairg next month.

Lairg Crofters Show is hosting a concert featuring accordionist Gary Innes and multi-instrumentalist Ewen Henderson, who will be joined by guest artist Rory Matheson.

Audiences can expect a show packed with accordion, fiddle and bagpipe music as well as Scottish songs.

Gary, from Spean Bridge, first picked up an accordion at the age of eight and never looked back. He released his first solo album in 2005 to great critical acclaim.

Gary took over from Dr Robbie Shepherd as host of BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Take the Floor’ in 2016 and has his own Sunday evening requests show, ‘Your Requests with Gary Innes’.

Ewen, from Fort William, started playing the fiddle at the age of five and has gone on to master an impressive range of instruments.

The two musicians, who have performed as a duo around the world, co-founded the acclaimed band Mànran in 2010,

Special guest Rory Matheson is a founding member of the folk band TRIP and in 2019 joined the fiddle-based quartet Fara.

The concert takes place at Lairg Community Centre on Friday, February 9, from 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £13.40, can be bought via Eventbrite.
