Firefighters have been battling a wild fire in Sutherland this afternoon.

A 2km sq area of heather and gorse was destroyed by the blaze at Armadale, between Strathy and Bettyhill.

Three appliances were sent to the scene at 11.53am.

The scene was safe by 3.55pm.

Firefighters from Tongue, Thurso and Wick attended. A hose reel and seven beaters were among the kit used.

Motorists on the nearby A836 were stopped for a period. It is understood it was due to smoke blowing across the road.
