Timespan Museum and Arts Centre in Helmsdale is holding the first of a series of walks on Saturday, January 27, from 11.30am-12.30pm.

The walk to the Emigrant's Monument and around Castle Park starts and finishes at Timespan and will be led by a trained volunteer. Along the way, local stories will be shared and participants will engage in mindfulness exercises.

Walkers will learn about the history of the old harbour, built in 1818 for the herring trade, and the tragic triple murder plot at Helmsdale castle in 1567 that inspired Shakespeare to write Hamlet.

A spokesperson for Timespan said: "The route is a well trodden walk and is great for beginners and for blowing away the winter blues."

Following the walk, a short film entitled "Coronation Celebrations in Helmsdale and Golspie, 1937" will be screened in Timespan.
