HIGHLAND book buffs keen to take advantage of a free three-in-one themed evening featuring best-selling local authors are being urged to snap up a seat sharpish.

Ullapool Bookshop is bringing together S.G. MacLean, author of award-nominated The Bookseller of Inverness; novelist John McLellan, whose book The Faultline has been a big local hit, and crime writer G. R. Halliday, whose latest work is Under the Marsh.

The Friday, June 2 event from 5.30pm features a discussion with bookshop manager Katharine Douglas under the theme 'A Sense of Place; a moment in time'.

Each author undertakes very different research methods, ranging from visiting the original Scottish archives to verify historical accuracies, including Ordnance Survey maps of the 18th century and historical buildings of significance, to climbing and exploring the north-west and investigating Scottish crimes.

McLellan's work sets the scene in and around Kinlochewe in the late 1970s for a group of young people who spent the summer there, exploring life, geology, history and ultimately making life-long friendships.

Ullapool Bookshop says it is "delighted and honoured" that all three authors are taking time out of their busy writing schedules and commitments to be in Ullapool for "what is sure to be a popular evening".

Anyone wanting to attend the free evening event is asked to RSVP to Katharine Douglas at ullapoolbookshop@btconnect.com or 01854 612918, as seated spaces are limited for the evening "and are sure to be snapped up fast".

The event begins with complimentary refreshments, including locally made canapes by Izabela –who also works in the bookshop – along with wine or soft drinks. The event begins prompt at 6pm.

The event is expected to last an hour and will be followed by the opportunity to buy books by each author and books which can be signed and dedicated on the evening.
