Temporary planning permission has been granted for a sixth successive year for the Snow Factory to be retained at Cairngorm Mountain.

Consent has been granted by Highland Council for the snow-making equipment to continued to be sited at the resort until December 10 this year.

The application was approved by council planners based in Kingussie using delegated powers.

“The proposal is for the existing snow making machine, housed within a steel shipping container to be retained on site for a further year,” Highland Council planning officer Roddy Dowell states in his planning background report.

“The location of the structure is on an area of hardstanding, adjacent to the upper car parking area, Base Station and Day Lodge on Cairngorm Mountain...

“Temporary consent was granted for a one-year trial basis in 2017.

“This was followed by a further application for a two storey Snow Factory which increased the scale and capacity for a temporary period of two years granted on in 2018.

“Three further one-year extensions were granted in 2019, 2020 which was called in and dealt with by the Cairngorms National Park Authority and 2021.

“This will be the sixth renewal application.”
