Believed to be one of the oldest dwelling houses in the Easter Ross town, 'Old House' on Market Street went up for sale in July, with the seller, Georgesons Estate Agents, inviting offers in the region of £38,000.

A burgh survey has identified the house as a surviving early building from around the 16th or 17th century.

Situated across from the original market stance, the historic stone-built property is understood to have been to the go-to location for market goers to have their cart wheels repaired or horses re-shoed while they took to the stalls and trade stands.

Although it is not known exactly when the house was built, historic environment records for the Highland Council area state that it is of considerable age and may belong to the period 1500-1700.

Records also note that the building has raised gables, a steeply pitched slate roof (formerly thatched), catslide dormers and 16 pane sashes.

The seller states that the property is in need of full renovation and although it has previously been used as a dwelling house and a garage it has latterly been used as a store.

It can be accessed, at present, by the main doors to the front with an internal stairway inside to access the upper floor. The store and WC to the side will require internal access.

All fixtures and fittings are included in the sale.
