Young carers in Sutherland have enjoyed some recent festive events.

A busload of primary school aged youngsters who are supported by The Young Karers East Sutherland service (Tykes), took part in an ice skating Christmas party in Inverness.

They were among 150 young carers from across the region to enjoy a disco on ice.

And senior young carers from Tykes had a great day out, with much hilarity, when they went to the pantomime Peter Pan at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness.

Tykes is currently supporting 50 families from all over Sutherland, with 85 young carers.

Manager Denise Campbell said: "Christmas is a pressure point with many families, which sees Tykes recognised in our local communities.

"Offers of support from individuals and agencies vary from Christmas hampers, fundraisers and raffles along with donated groceries. The list is endless and very much appreciated."

Tykes, which has its headquarters in Golspie, has resumed its after school and lunch-time drop-in sessions during term time.

"There has been a great uptake of young carers coming to the centre after school to have time out and claim their safe space," said Ms Campbell. "This is providing opportunities for support from peers and the team at Tykes.

"Lunch time drop-ins prove popular in various supporting schools, allowing a different approach in different environments."

In the October break eight young carers were taken on a two-night break where they were able to step away from everyday pressures.

Tykes has also been invited by Golspie and Kinlochbervie High Schools to be involved in its Youth and Philanthropy Initiative projects
