Sutherland Walkers Group announces summer programme of walks

A season of sociable walks has been agreed for a local walking club.

Sutherland Walkers Group held their AGM and walks programme planning meeting in Dornoch Social Club last month.

The summer walks generally take place on the fourth Sunday of each month, with an extra walk in July, which is followed by a meal.

New walkers are welcome and no charge is made for the initial two walks.

The summer programme of walks is as follows:

April 24 – Little Wyvis. 763m/2503ft. 10km/6.25 miles, linear. OS20 402639. Leader: Jon Jenkins: 01862 810382. Optional self-guided low level walk: Silverbridge River Circuit. Car share: Dornoch Square, 9.10am; Home Bargains, Tain 9.30am. The walks start from car park off the A835, 2km north of Garve at 10.30am.

May 22 – North Kessock, Kilmuir, Taindore, Ord Hill. Approx. 16km/10 miles, circular. Optional self-guided low level walk around Ord Hill or Kilmuir and return.

June 26 – Lochinver to Achmelvich. 16km/10 miles, linear, track and road. Optional self-guided shorter walk, on same track.

July 10 – Ben Stumanadh. 527m/1729ft. Approx. 12.9km/8 miles. Optional self-guided low level walk to Achnanclach Bothy. Meal after the walks at the Crask Inn.

July 24 – Ben Hee. 873m/2864ft. 11.3km/7 miles, linear. Optional self-guided low level walk on path towards Gobernuisgach.

August 28 – Ben Stack. 721m/2366ft. 11.66km/7.25 miles. Optional self-guided low level walk to Lone and return.

September 25 – Fyrish Three Follies. 460m/1509ft. Approx. 14.5km/9 miles. Optional self-guided low level walk: Alness Golf Course, circular.

At the AGM, the office bearers for the coming season were elected as follows: chairman: Jon Jenkins; vice chairman: Annette Parrott; secretary: Fiona Macdonald; treasurer: David Hannah. Committee: Stan Holroyd, Jayne Jenkins and Jean Mezzetti.
